Media Center

Welcome to the Level Creek Media Center!

The media center at Level Creek Elementary School is a warm, friendly, and interesting place where children can come to discover the joy of reading, the rush of discovery, and the informational and creative uses of technology. Through media specialist and teacher collaboration, students will learn to become effective life-long learners and critical thinkers.

We operate on a flexible schedule. Students may come to the library anytime from 9:00am-3:00pm as a class, or individually with their teacher's permission.

Book Checkout

Studies have shown that self-selected reading materials positively impact achievement, foster life-long literacy and increase the enjoyment of reading.

Kindergarten students may check out 1 book at a time.
First grade students may check out 2 books at a time.
Third-grade through fifth-grade students may check out 3 books at a time.
The loan period is for two weeks, but students are welcome to bring the book to us and we will renew it for another two weeks.

Lost/Damaged Books

All students are responsible for items checked out on their account until the item is returned to the media center.

Fines are not charged for overdue books, however, if a book is lost or damaged to the point it is no longer in condition to circulate, a fine will be assessed.

Replacement fees (established by GCPS guidelines) for lost books are as follows:

$15.00 for hardback books
$5.00 for paperback books

We accept payment in the form of credit card on MyPaymentsPlus. If the book is returned after a student has paid for it, the parent will be issued a refund. Refunds usually take 4-6 weeks to process.

We operate under the Policy and Procedures of Gwinnett County Public Schools and the Level Creek Elementary Media/Technology Committee.

Volunteers

We love having volunteers join us in the media center! It’s a great way to get involved at Level Creek and we could not run such a successful program without our volunteers.

Volunteers typically assist the media staff one morning or afternoon, by shelving books, helping students locate books, and helping with other small projects as they arise. We also have two book fairs during the school year that would be a great opportunity to jump in for a couple of shifts or even a couple of days if you cannot commit to helping year-round.

LCES Morning News Show

LCES Morning News is our daily morning broadcast show where every fifth-grade student gets the opportunity to work in front of the cameras and behind the scenes to spread all the important information our school needs for the day.

Each student at Level Creek has the opportunity to work on the news crew. Throughout the school year we cycle through each of the 5th grade classes to give every student the opportunity to be a part of our morning news show. Students are trained every Friday and begin their morning news responsibilities the next Monday through Friday.

Parents are welcome to come to the media center and watch the morning news when your child is on the news crew. Our news show goes live every day at 8:50 AM.
